Shrinky Dinks are a fun craft where you draw on special sheets of polystyrene plastic using tools like markers or colored pencils, cut out your designs, and then shrink them with a heat source, such as a home oven. The scientific magic happens because the plastic sheets are made of long, stretched-out molecule chains that are frozen in place during manufacturing; when heat is added, these chains gain energy and quickly snap back to their original, compact shape, making the plastic piece much smaller, thicker, and harder in a matter of seconds.
(kids/attendees will draw their design and SWE members will used the heat guns to shrink them while explaining the science behind it)
